We usually answer within two working days. For a bug, please include your device (for example iPhone 15), your system version and the app version, shown at the bottom of the Profile tab.

Adding a word

Tap the + button, or press ⌘N on Mac. Type the word or expression, then add a translation, an explanation and a web link if you want. Words are saved in the language you are currently learning, shown at the top of the screen.

Creating and using lists

Open My Words, then the list menu, and choose Manage lists to create one. A word belongs to a single list. Deleting a list never deletes its words: they move to No list.

Learning several languages

Use the globe button to add a language or switch to another one. Each language keeps its own words, lists, level and streak. The rest of the app follows the language you select.

Reviewing

The Review tab offers cards, dictation, or a mix of both. Rate each card Again, Hard, Good or Easy, or swipe right for Good and left for Again. Spaced repetition then decides when a word comes back: the better you know it, the longer it waits.

Dictation

The app reads a word aloud and you type what you hear. Play slowly repeats it at reduced speed. The correction highlights the characters that differ and shows the translation and the context.

Dictation says speech is unavailable

Your device has no voice installed for that language. On iPhone and iPad, open Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices, and download a voice for the language you are learning. On Mac, this is in System Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content.

My words do not appear on my other device

Check that both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account, that iCloud Drive is on, and that the devices have a network connection. Syncing runs in the background and may take a few minutes after a large change. Opening the app and leaving it in the foreground for a moment usually triggers it.

I cannot see “Suggest with Apple Intelligence”

That button appears only on devices that support Apple Intelligence and have it enabled, and for supported languages. When it is not available, or when the model cannot produce an explanation, Lexilo falls back to a standard translation. Everything is computed on the device.

Some old words have no language

Words added before Lexilo recorded the language you were learning appear in a banner at the top of the screen. Tap it, pick the language they belong to, and you can still correct any single word later in its edit screen.

How do I delete my data?

Deleting the app removes everything stored on the device. If you used iCloud sync, also open Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Lexilo, and delete the data there. We hold no copy of it, so there is nothing for us to erase.
